Overview

Objectives of the Major in Tourism Management

The tourism industry is expected to continue growing and increasing in economic relevance for the next two decades. This growth will result in industry changes, more intense competition and new forms of cooperation among public and private actors as well as small companies and large international groups. In this environment, the quality of human resources will be even more important for a company’s success. It will require a mix of capabilities to exploit opportunities offered by technology, to build networks among different actors and assets to create complex tourist products. The Major in Tourism Management will give you the tools to stand out in the sector, to create complex products, to develop new business models and to exploit the opportunities offered by technology.

Diploma and ECTS

The Master in International Management – Major in Tourism Management  is a one-year Master of Science equivalent to “Master Universitario di I livello” in accordance with the Italian university system. It provides students with 65 ECTS – European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. At the end of the programme, the Master’s Diploma “Master Universitario di I livello” will be conferred to participants who have passed exams or others assessment tests envisaged in the study program.

The Major in Tourism Management is aimed at recent graduates — or those graduating soon — who are interested in developing competencies required in the tourism industries.

Curriculum

Curriculum

The curriculum of the Major in Tourism Management  is designed to ensure and support the progressive professional and personal growth of students who benefit from a productive learning experience: lessons, case studies, group work sessions, and a high-level faculty comprised of both academics and professionals.

During the Master’s Degree Programme, students receive constant support from the Career Service Office that helps them increase their employability and find a curricular internship.

Induction week

The induction week is an introductive week to the Major in Tourism Management during which students can settle in and familiarise themselves with life on campus. Ice-breaking labs, seminars, workshops, and presentations allow students to meet their classmates and get a better idea of the services offered by Luiss Business School, as well as curricular and extracurricular activities.

General Management

General management courses aim to give all students the necessary business management foundations in order to better understand new concepts that will be introduced during the core and advanced courses. The general management courses provide students with an overview that is highly useful upon entering the job market.

Challenge

Students will be involved in a challenge aimed at finding innovative solutions to real-life business needs. Each challenge is commissioned by one of the programme’s corporate partners.

Learning Labs

Learning labs focus on personal development. During the programme, students develop cross-functional and soft skills by attending sessions to cultivate intellectual flexibility, develop problem-solving skills, learn to adapt to diverse situations, and refine cross-cultural awareness.

Internship

The curricular internship is generally done at the end of the Major and represents an opportunity for students to combine theory and hands-on experience, coming into direct contact with professionals working in the industry. The Career Service Office supports students in their search for internship opportunities, thus helping to broaden their career prospects and giving them the possibility to acquire the necessary work experience, both increasing and improving their skills while expanding their business network.

Learning Labs

Learning labs focus on personal development and are tailored to specific focuses. Students develop cross-functional and soft skills by attending sessions during which they cultivate intellectual flexibility, develop problem solving skills, learn to adapt to diverse situations and refine cross-cultural awareness.

Employability Lab

The lab aims to help students to further develop the ten key skills outlined by the World Economic Forum 2020. The lab is organised in collaboration with Luiss Business School’s Career Service Office.

Adventure Lab

This lab aims to create an entrepreneurial framework and to allow students to put what they have learnt in class into practice. Students learn basic mechanisms that allow them to launch a new business by means of a business plan. The lab provides students with useful insights to lay out a business idea, create a business plan, draft a marketing and fundraising campaign, and define the organisational structure.

Social, Environmental and Impact Lab

This lab sensitises students to current global issues related to sustainability. Students analyse business cases and present creative and innovative solutions that consider social, economic and environmental impact. Students then come up with solutions that to decrease the impact on a social, environmental and economic scale.

Creativity Lab

This lab allows students to develop and acquire new skills using their creativity. The lab helps participants to create a work environment that values individuals by increasing personal motivation and favouring integration with other group components in order to obtain better results.

Digital Skills Lab

The Digital Skills Lab increases students’ comprehension of the organisational impact that the digital era has on businesses.

Project Management Lab

The lab aims to provide the vocabulary and basic knowledge of the Project Management field in order to effectively contribute to various aspects of the planning and execution of a project. Furthermore, the lab highlights the critical success factors of a project. The lab gives students basic knowledge of Project Management concepts, highlighting the fundamental differences between a project and a programme. Students study the five group processes for the management of a project.

How-to-Present Lab

This lab gives students the presentation tools necessary for the world of business. The lab is divided into four sections: personal branding, writing with impact, public speaking and pitching.

Career Service

Career Service

The Career Service Office offers students customised services to support them in developing their skills and abilities while helping them find satisfying jobs and careers. The Career Service team supports student in defining their career path, and in arranging meetings with companies to explore job and internship opportunities.

The Career Service Office is also responsible for the Employability Lab which develops students’ self-awareness on a key set of soft skills, and to build a personal action plan which maximises self-efficacy in a working environment.

Career Service Activities

Over the academic year, activities are organised into different steps to best understand students’ profiles in order to match them with the most suitable employers.

Events and activities include:

• Career counselling: focus on understanding and building students’ professional profiles
• Orientation to job-market rules: help students define their career paths, building their digital identity and increasing their interview skills
• Business presentations: take part in conferences and meetings with executives to better understand the business world and the fields in which the executives work
• Employer engagement: work with employers to find the best way to promote their reputation and make the most of their collaboration with Luiss Business School as part of their brand strategy
• E-career book: make student CVs available online to companies and institutions for recruitment
• Internships: from the classroom to the office, the CS supports students in their search for internship opportunities

Career Development and Networking with Companies

The Career Service Office sits on the corporate advisory boards of all Luiss Business School one-year Master’s Degree Programmes, acting as an internal business intelligence office and providing feedback on employer needs in terms of competencies and skills. The programme’s boards and coordinators can integrate these requirements into programmes, tracks and laboratories.

Every year, more than 100 career-development events and workshops are held on campus, mostly involving employers and alumni. These activities connect students with recruiters and managers while giving them first-hand information on recruitment programmes and career paths.

Moreover, some of these events are designed to foster students’ personal development.

Tuition and Funding

Tuition

The tuition fee for the Master is €22,000 (equivalent to approximately 90,000 AED based on the exchange rate at the time of enrollment confirmation). Payment is made in four installments. Tuition includes materials and access to all Luiss Business School facilities.

Scholarships

Luiss Business School offers deserving candidates up to 3 partial scholarships (covering up to 25% of the tuition fee). The scholarships will be granted based on merit. All candidates will be considered for this award.

Candidates will be assessed on:

• Academic track record (final grade, GPA)
• Admission test scores
• English proficiency
• Technical competences (Office, Adobe, etc.)
• Proven expertise or personal acknowledgement
• Certifications
• International experience

Fee Waivers

Luiss Business School offer several fee waivers options:

• Participants who have already attended a Luiss Business School programme or are Luiss Guido Carli graduates are entitled to a 10% fee reduction.
• Any company (or VAT holder) that enrolls one individual is entitled to a 10% fee reduction.
• Any company (or VAT holder) that enrolls multiple individuals in the same programme is entitled to a 20% fee reduction.

Waivers cannot be combined with any other waiver, scholarship or sponsorship support.

Other Financial Aid

All candidates can independently:

• Obtain a loan at favorable rates from selected credit institutions through agreements with Luiss Guido Carli. For further information, please e-mail master@luissbusinessschool.it  or fill in the form and send it to master@luissbusinessschool.it  after admission.
• Apply for external scholarships

Seek funding from their current or future employer.

How to Apply

Admission

To enroll in the Master it is necessary to pass the admission test which assesses the candidates’ skills, motivation and potential. The test can be taken remotely.

Admission Requirements

Undergraduate degree in any discipline.

Admission Test

The admission test consists of:

• English Test (applicants with valid TOEFL/IELTS scores can be exempted from the English test)
• Logic Test—Inductive, Numerical, Deductive (applicants with valid GMAT/GRE scores can be exempted from the Logic test)
• Personal interviews

Exemption from Admission test

If you have valid TOEFL/IELTS and/or GMAT/GRE scores you can insert your scores in the application form to be exempted from the English and/or Logic test. You will still be required to take part in personal interviews.

GMAT/GRE for the Logic Test: We do not require a minimum score. The GMAT and GRE scores of admitted applicants vary across classes, however it is very unusual for us to accept candidates with a total GMAT score below 550 and a total GRE score below 145.

IELTS/TOEFL for the English Test: We require a minimum score of IELTS 7.0 and TOEFL 100 as evidence of your advanced English level.

• admission fee receipt of € 100 (non-refundable)
• TOEFL/IELTS certificate (optional)
• GMAT/GRE certificate (optional)

Candidates with an international degree are required to send the following further documentation for evaluation:

• copy of degree certificate both in original language and in English *
• transcript of records in English
• diploma supplement (optional)

*Candidates who are not in possession of the degree certificate are required to provide the fully completed Luiss Business School’s self-declaration form available HERE.

Payment of the Admission Fee

The admission fee is payable online by credit card or via bank transfer. Proof of payment must be sent via email to master@luissbusinessschool.it  with the aforementioned documents.

Corporate Advisory Board

The Corporate Advisory Board (CAB) — composed of the Master’s Degree Programme Scientific Committee and representatives of the most important firms in the industry — aims to ensure student employability and business partner satisfaction.

The objective of the programme is to transmit a body of knowledge that encompasses new technologies, and an understanding of industry dynamics through the involvement of companies that act as a bridge between the classroom and the job market.

During the CAB our Corporate Partners:

• Cooperate in the program design: sharing its objectives, curriculum, processes and training program
• Participate in teaching and coordinating activities: with business managers contributing on-the-job experience
• Support the Career Service team: through the field project, a key opportunity for students to be involved in a company experience

International Experience

International Experience

The International Experience includes international oriented activities and experiences that allow students to see through the lens of an international perspective and mind-set.

International opportunities contribute both to the personal and professional growth of students, stimulating linguistic and social skills, the sharing of ideas, best practices and skills, and to the development of an international business-oriented network.

Each opportunity is designed consistently with the study path undertaken at the Luiss Business School.

Meeting with International Leaders

Throughout the programme, students will meet international leaders and managers that will share best practices that help make decisions that impact positively in the businesses and provide rich insights to go further current and future issues related to the industry and/or function in which they operate.

Exchange Programme

Students that meet specific requirements can participate in an International experience abroad in one of the partner Business Schools. Exchange opportunities are also offered to students from other partner schools who are hosted within projects that involve Luiss Business School students.
